Portugal’s water company is to hike prices by an average of 45 cents per month for the majority of domestic consumers from New Year’s Day.
The water utility stated that, “For the great majority of EPAL (Lisbon’s water company) domestic customers — around 85% — the new 2019 charges will mean an average update in prices of 45 cents per month, two cents more than in 2018.”
Domestic clients within this group are considered to be those who use eight cubic metres and a 15 millimetres water meter.
The company points out that it has a special social charge for families in need with reductions of up to 93% in water bills.
EPAL serves over 80 municipal councils and is a state-owned public company held 100% by Águas de Portugal.
